A Fancy Hotel

Dear reader,

If you now have begun to understand who I am as a person you will soon see that I do not consider myself to be high in society.

I don’t seek wealth, fame, or notoriety.

Never really have, and I have done my best to keep it that way.

I’ve sought modest living, and not to boost up my ego in any way, but let me tell you I felt spoiled this past week.

I received the amazing opportunity to help shoot the Behind the Scenes for an upcoming animated film called ‘Light of the World.’

It’s a retelling of the story of Jesus but from the point of view of a young John. Say maybe 11 or 12. It was an amazing experience, but let me make one thing so clear.

I felt so out of place.

Everyone there seemed to be rich and successful. The food we ate was unlike anything I’d experienced before, the hotel rooms were beautiful, and there was even a fee if you jumped in the elevator.

This place was immaculate.

The best way to describe it all was showing up to the first night I had spilled Wendy’s on the drive up, and my khaki shorts were stained to high heaven. Everywhere I looked I would see people dressed up in their finest duds, and I was chilling in my stained clothes.

Sticking out like a sore thumb is not what I want to focus on in this story, but I want to point out the aspect of not belonging so you can see my point of view.

I was gifted the opportunity to be there. I didn’t deserve it. It was handed to me, and I accepted it, just as we are with the gospel.

We don’t deserve the grace and forgiveness that God offers us. Yet he does so willingly. It can seem so overwhelming some days.

I want to leave you with this, when you feel out of place that’s okay, just remember that if God in his ultimate sovereignty brings you to a place you believe you don’t belong, just think of Heaven and its perfection.

The perfect blood of Christ covers you, that is your VIP ticket to wherever God brings you.

Sincerely,

Your Fellow Brother Covered in Jesus’ Blood
