Unfrosted
Dear reader,
I love stories. You know that and I know that.
But there are certain stories that I gravitate towards.
The stories that are so unbelievable I can get lost in the narrative, or it’s so believable I can think to myself, “Wow, this could happen.”
I experienced a phenomenon last night. A mixture of the two things I loved most about stories. Yet sadly enough, there were little to no reflections of the gospel.
’Unfrosted’ is a Netflix original movie created by Jerry Seinfeld the comedian.
It is the extremely false and exaggerated tale of Post and Kellog fighting to produce the first Pop-Tart.
(Doesn’t that sound exciting?!?!)
The Story follows Bob Cabana, one of the higher-ups of Kellogg who learns that their arch-rival company (Post) has stolen some of their research to develop a new breakfast food.
The conflict in the story is that each company is racing against each other to produce the same thing first.
There is no mentor-like figure in this story, which means there is also no underlying moral truth that is taught within the story.
Each company plays dirty trying to get one step over each other. This means they get involved the the Sugar Cartel, The Milk Man Mafia, and The Russian Government just to stay ahead of the other.
Throughout all the chaos you can see greed playing out before our eyes. Each company is willing to do ANYTHING to win this production race, and it’s played for laughs but at one point a staff member dies in (a completely unnecessary explosion) after the funeral they just go right back to work.
I know and understand due to its heavy comedic nature the story itself is just played for its non-stop jokes. But after I was done with the film I was left kinda empty.
Sure the silly story had some funny moments, but humor apart from true joy that is only found in God is so fleeting. And because the film didn’t point back to any moral truth it was honestly pretty ‘blah’.
I know that can sound so stuck up, but I’m just sharing my interpretation of it.
If you enjoyed it please let me know why, I’d love to hear what stuck out to you.
Sincerely,
Your Fellow Frosted Flakes Addict
