The Lord of the Algorithm

Dear reader,

I don’t know if you are anything like me, but I have come to terms with a reality that most people in this world would scoff at.

I can’t stand social media.

Back in my early years of high school, I recall getting facebook for the first time, and I don’t remember what I did with it. I viewed it as a normal part of adult life as if it was to connect me with my friends and family more.

When in reality it distracted me from doing a plethora of things.

I went to a winter camp with my church back in the early 2010s, and one of my youth leaders told all of us that we should delete social media for a month and see if our lives were better for it.

I went for about 2 years instead of the initial month. It was amazing, I dived into projects with more gusto and my overall distractibility was at an all-time low.

My next memory with social media would have been in 2020. I was accepted for a missionary trip and I needed to fundraise $18,000. So I started a blog and started posting on Facebook yet again.

Ever since 2020, I’ve fiddled with having social media or not. I didn’t want to earn attention or feed my ego, but I learned quickly that God gave me many stories to tell and I still needed a platform to tell them on.

I started Infinite Ideas in January of 2024, and it became clear that I needed to utilize social media in order to obtain an audience in order to serve people with my services.

I fought hard against the algorithm. I couldn’t stand it. There were so many rules about SEO and how many times a day you should post, and blah blah blah.

One month I fasted from social media, and it felt so good to not have my attention what felt like so divided. When I returned I had one thing on my mind.

Tell stories for God’s glory. I don’t care about the algorithm anymore, there is one person I trust to guide the algorithm and that is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I’ve been given the role of a storyteller, and so I will do just that, and I will share those stories through blog posts, podcast episodes, and YouTube videos. That is three different platforms and three different audiences.

I have chosen to step back and allow God to take the stories and use them in the ways he sees fit.

I want to encourage you, my friend. If you are telling stories, do it well, don’t fret about every small word and every detail.

Share it and trust the God of all things to do what He says he’ll do.

Sincerely,

Your Fellow Rebel Against the Algorithm

-Mitchell
